oo_com_oo, posting in abandonedplaces @ 11:52pm: Forgotten Church ...

In general, churches, monasteries and manor houses are particularly never attract me. I’m more interested in chemical plants in ruins or abandoned hospitals... By the way, this places could have their own interest

lord_dominion @ 2:04pm: Possibility Of Going Back To West Virginia...
Greetings All,

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

It should come as no real surprise to some of you that once again i'm packing my bags and carrying my head between my legs once again. I don't know what else to do though. I hate West Virginia with a passion but my friend Pete is willing to take me in and charge me just a little bit in rent until I can get my feet on the ground again. If I stay here, i'll only dig myself deeper and deeper in debt and i'm already up to my eyeballs in past debts! I'm not getting anywhere living here.

I love Jaime and always will. I hope she knows that too. I'm not leaving because of her. I'm leaving because I can't financially hack it out here. I also don't feel like I belong here. I want to feel like I belong you know?

There is no guarantee yet that i'm going to be moving. I have to make my final decision tonight so that I can get back to my friend Pete about it. But more than likely this is what i'm going to do unless by chance some miracle presents itself and offers me a job or enough money to pay off my security deposit, rent, and phone for the month. Fat chance of that happening though! My luck ran out long ago i'm afraid.

After a few months in West Virginia, i'm heading to either California to be back with my friends and family out there or to Seattle, Washington if my best friend Chris still decides to move out there and wish me for a roommate.

I got to get going but i'll keep you guys updated as I know more myself. Until later....

theseaoryou, posting in _backpackers @ 2:42am: Has anyone been backpacking in Ireland? Specifically in or around the Dingle Peninsula?
My dream is to just show up with a backpack and some cash and travel around, seeing as much as I can of Ireland that is possible to someone with a backpack and two legs - although I know it's probably not that easy or logical. But has anyone ever come close?

-Where did you start?
-Where did you end up?
-How far did you travel each day?
-Costs?
-Where did you stay/ is it possible to camp?
-Any other recommendations, tips, ideas, etc?

Thank you!!

dark_fetus, posting in abandonedplaces @ 7:03pm: The Abandoned of 2009
So... as I look back upon the past year,
I feel blessed to have been able to see and share as much as I have.
As a farewell to 2009 (and hello to 2010) I made a video up for our YouTube channel.
It features highlights from our outings over the past 9 months.
Some locations in the video are places I have posted about here,
other locations will not be familiar to some of you.
These are places I will be posting to this group in the near future.

Though I did not originally intend to post the video here, I now think that I should.
Perhaps to get people pumped up for the new year, or to reflect on their own past year.

In the end, all we (Christina and I) really wish is for people
to treat these places with a little more respect and dignity.
The members of this group seem like the type that do just that,
so it is you who I intended the video for anyway...

More than just rotting wood lies within these walls.
There's history to be learned, and knowledge to be instilled.

Wishing everyone the best in 2010, and to not fall through too many decaying floors...
~Rusty

To recap, [info]gynocide and I went on a road trip to Trona, CA--a small town (very nearly a ghost town.. 80% abandoned) 30 miles northeast of Ridgecrest.

Toronto has a area called the Junction, based around a strong rail presence became a hotbed for industry in the early 20th Century. As it died, it became a hotbed for abandoned building. Many these days have been rebuilt into condos or simply demolished. Here's a selection of photos from the area...

Hi, there! This my debut here, in abandonedplaces, so don't charge a lot. XX-40 is half-abandoned underground bunker in the centre of Moscow. Now it is being reconstructed and repaired.

bullandterrier, posting in abandonedplaces @ 7:48pm: This is part two of [info]gynocide and I's roadtrip to Trona.. part one I posted yesterday, of our brief stop in Garlock, CA. Once we got into Trona we decided to stop at the Pinnacles for sight-seeing but the 8 mile unpaved dirt road didn't seem like much fun to me.. even with 4x4. We still got some nice views of the Pinnacles though.

Anywho.. one of the first abandoned buildings that can be seen while driving through Trona is an abandoned gas station.. not a very welcoming sight.

I've been trying to figure out what type of knot this is but I can't find it. I've seen a few very dapper individuals with this type of tie knot. Help?

thedancingleper, posting in abandonedplaces @ 12:29pm: Third Piece

Final piece for The Examination Room series. Dammasch State Hospital. Abandoned in the early 90's, torn down several years ago to make way for a housing development. I saw it twice in its abandoned state, once before Navy Seals practiced there and once after. The examination room really took a beating.

Edit: On request here are the other two of the series.

bullandterrier, posting in abandonedplaces @ 9:14pm: My friend [info]gynocide and I went on a road trip today and passed through Garlock, CA.. a ghost town easily accessible right off Garlock Rd, between the CA-14 (between Mojave and Red Rock Canyon) and CA-395.. the road is well-paved, no potholes (unlike the road to Trona.. yikes) and makes for quite a nice little stop. Our destination was Trona.. tons of pictures from that trip to come.. 90% of Trona is abandoned and very, very eerie. Garlock is an old mining town and minimal in what is actually accessible as far as walking around goes.. just a couple buildings. The rest of the town is fenced off. If you want a real adventure.. go to Trona, lol.. anyway here's a quick photo dump from Garlock.

doc__holliday, posting in buskers @ 10:07pm: Ask a Busker!
Hi kids!

I've decided to start a regular little segment on my blog called Ask A Busker!

I started it this evening after discussing the topic of "frequent questions people ask" me as a street performer. I figured I might as well answer those questions people seem to fire off at me all the time. Since it's the winter time and I'm not busking that much, I figured, now's the time to compile a list of those annoying/thought-provoking questions and start answering them!

Coincidentally, the first post is about why I don't street perform in the winter!

Please read it! Please send in your questions!

Much like the art of busking, it has the potential to be a lot of fun pending on how many people interact with it. So, please contribute!
killbox, posting in abandonedplaces @ 5:24pm: Once again new Trip to the NM ATSF Railroad Repair Shops In Albuquerque
DSC_6168

A group of Flickr, photographers actually paid rent/insurance for a day to go explore/photograph one of my favorite abandoned places out here in the west. here are some of my photos. Its sometimes used for movies, such as T4, Transformers, Gamer, and a few others. Built in the early 1900's it reached its hayday in the 1940's when it started to decline after the war, at that point it was deemed too costly to retrofit the coal steam engine repair shops for the newer diesel engines, so it got used for storage for a while. and then sat derelict.

Allo' Allo' everyone. I'm new to this community and what a beautiful find to have found. :)

I've just got a wee little post pertaining to my own favorite place that used to be bustling when I was a child and is now barren and empty. A zoo in the massive forest near my home in British Columbia, Canada.

The pictures get quite large if you keep clicking them, so go ahead and savor every little detail!
